Preselling: Lily King’s “Euphoria”
Lily King has a new novel coming out in June titled Euphoria that is a great pre-selling option. It is about “three groundbreaking anthropologists in 1930s Papua New Guinea, inspired by the adventures of trailblazing anthropologist Margaret Mead.”
There are several routes you can take to pre-sell this title:
- If you’ve read the book and love it, call your customers that enjoy your tastes in reading. They’ll be pleased that you thought of them.
- King is the author of The Pleasing Hour, The English Teacher, and Father of the Rain. Search your database for customers who are already fans of King, and notify them that she has a new book coming out in June that booksellers are already buzzing about. Would they like for you to hold one for them?
- In our review, Elizabeth Schieber compares it to The Mosquito Coast, Poisonwood Bible, Bel Canto or State of Wonder. Return to your database to pull readers of those titles and send them an email about Euphoria. Mention the comparables, and be sure to include a “pre-order” button.
King is active on Facebook, Twitter, and has an informative website. I especially like that on the website she a reading list of books that she has read many times. She describes them as, “books that remind me what great writing is and urge me forward.” Lists such as these make great Twitter material.
