Rakoff on “My Salinger Year”
Recently I heard from a bookseller who avoids any of my posts containing reviews, trailers, or links about specific books, assuming they are publisher-paid content.
Well, they’re not.
While Books & Whatnot does accept paid advertisements, anything posted editorially about a specific book is because I think the book is sellable and the content will help support the sale. It is not paid promotion.
A few weeks ago I reviewed Joanna Rakoff’s My Salinger Year. You might not be a fan of the man or his writing, but so many readers are fascinated by him and this book will charm them. Knopf recently released two videos about the book. The first one (above) is about 2:15 long and really gets to the heart of the book. The second one is about a minute longer and contains more anecdotal information. (Here’s a link to it.)
Either one would be appropriate to share with your customers. Or watch them yourself to add to your handselling bag of tricks.
