The Importance of Staff Picks
I recently visited a bookstore’s website and, while perusing the “Staff Picks” page, I noticed a recommendation for a book published in 2012.
That was the most recent recommendation.
As a customer, I’m not likely to return to the site. I know booksellers read, so I’ll assume the site hasn’t been updated recently. Why go back if there’s no new information to see?
Keeping staff picks currently is equally important in the physical bookstore, whether you have a “staff picks” section or insert bookmarks in select titles throughout the store.
Most likely, your staff has a variety of reading tastes. Since the reading tastes of your customers vary, this is a good thing. But that’s also why you need to feature staff picks from all of the staff. And it’s part of their job to keep them timely.
