Jennifer Vanderbes’ new novel, The Secret of Raven Point, hits the shelves today. This historical novel is set in 1943, when the 17-year-old protagonist lies about her age and joins the military as a nurse in order to search for her brother missing overseas. The Secret of Raven Point is featured on the February IndieNext List.
I was pleasantly surprised by the amount of useful information I found at her website. Vanderbes includes recommended reading, images of WWII recruitment posters for nurses, and there’s even a page of archival photos depicting life in a field hospital. If you can post an image on social media that’s related to a specific book–an image that is not an author photo or book cover–it’s entertainment without the feeling of a hardsell.
Jennifer Vanderbes is the author of the novels Easter Island and Strangers at the Feast, and is the recipient of numerous awards, including a Guggenheim Fellowship and a New York Public Library Cullman Fellowship.
