The Win-Win of Author/Bookstore Partnerships

Another smart collaboration is an author/bookstore partnership. Cory Doctorow announced through Boing Boing this morning that WORD Bookstores will be taking pre-orders for signed and personalized copies of In Real Life, a young adult graphic novel written by Doctorow and illustrated by Jen Wang, which will be released this October. Doctorow wrote: “I’ll drop by the store during New York Comic-Con and sign and personalize a copy for you and they’ll ship it to you straightaway.”

In a similar collaboration, Austin Kleon recently partnered with Book People in Austin, TX, for signed pre-orders of his new book, Show Your Work!

Through this type of partnership, the bookstore is being exposed to the author’s friends and followers, and the author receives the benefit of your customer outreach. The pre-selling campaign builds excitement and anticipation for the new book. So identify local authors whose books you’d like to promote and pitch a partnership with them. Win-win.
