Longfellow’s Box ‘o’ Chocolates Book Group

The book clubs at Longfellow Books in Portland, ME, have some great names. The Mostly Harmless Book Group meets monthly to discuss sci-fi/fantasy, although the website posts this disclaimer: “We’ve been told we push the boundaries on our definition of the genre so be warned!”  The International Book Group not only reads mysteries from around the world, they also taste food from that book’s home country. And the Buy Local Book Club meets monthly to discuss books either set locally or written by a local author.

But the club that piqued my interest is the Box ‘o’ Chocolates Book Group, which meets monthly to eat pizza, drink beer, and chat about their latest selection. The group is sponsored by Flatbread Pizza.

Julia Gersen, community manager at Longfellow Books told me that the group chose their own name, and they chose Box ‘o’ Chocolates because “they like to read a little bit of everything.”

Tonight, that everything includes Americanah by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie. (And pizza and beer.)
