DIY Scratch Cards
When the folks at Left Bank Books mentioned that Spike, their bookstore black cat, was featured on the custom scratcher tickets they’re using for the upcoming Independent Bookstore Day, I had to find out more.
Jarek Steele, Left Banks Books co-owner and scratchers-creator, sent a photo and explained the step-by-step process:
“I created a design for a business card size Avery template using our logo and cat and then picked out a bunch of literary quotes. I printed them out with a quote on each one plus a few cards with prizes on them. Then I put packing tape over the cards and mixed acrylic paint and dish soap (2 parts paint, 1 part dish soap) and painted over the quote or prize.”
Then on Independent Bookstore Day, each customer will get a scratch ticket. “Most will get quotes, but some will get prizes,” says Steele. “Either way it’s a fun souvenir.”
