The BBC recently produced this video, Preserving the Lost Art of Letterpress, about Letterpress Things, a warehouse of equipment in Chicopee, Massachusetts. The owner, John Barrett, has been gathering the equipment for the past 30 years from printing houses closing along the east coast.
I stumbled upon an art poster by Charley Chartwell titled A Grand Taxonomy of Shakespearean Insults.
A tribute to Shakespeare’s dagger-like wit, this offset lithograph features 100 of his greatest insults, categorized by topic, like Personal Attributes/Traits (Rogues, Fools, Traitors, Fiends) and even subtopics:
Bodily Qualities > Body Parts/Functions > Brains: “He has not so much brain as ear-wax.”- Troilus and Cressida
Each 18 x 24 print is signed and numbered by the artist.
The Book Maven and @FridayReads founder, Bethanne Patrick, has started a second year of her Literary Advent Calendar.
“So many, many critics, bloggers, and media sites give Top 10 lists,” she says. “You don’t need another one from me–but what you might want from me, self-proclaimed Book Maven that I am, is an idea of some books that won’t be on everyone else’s lists, books that are excellent and worthy of listdom, but for many reasons weren’t deemed The Best or The Most or The Top.”
