HemingwastedThe 116th birthday of Ernest Hemingway is on July 21st, so Brazos Bookstore in Houston, TX, is celebrating Hemingday!

From the Brazos event page: “He liked manly things—like drinking, and fishing, and having a beard. He would’ve loved Brazos Bookstore. All these things come together for Hemingday!”

Their tribute to Papa includes drinks and readings from Hemingway’s work as well as some party games and in-store fishing for prizes.

Inspired by the research around her forthcoming book Big Magic, Elizabeth Gilbert has produced her first ever podcast–MAGIC LESSONS–which launched on Wednesday. Through the podcast, Liz and some of her friends–including Cheryl Strayed, Ann Patchett and John Hodgman–share wisdom and advice on living a creative and fulfilled life. New episodes will be available every Wednesday through mid-September and here’s a link to the first episode.

I love this “How is a Book Made?” video from OwlKids Books. It provides a behind-the-scenes look at the print production of the Chirp books, taking the viewer through the CMYK printing process, the folding, gathering and binding steps, all the way to packaging and shipping.
