Happy Birthday, Aaron’s Books!

Aaron’s Books in Lititz, PA, first opened their doors on July 3, 2005. They’re celebrating their 9th birthday with these three clever contests for loyal customers:

  1. Aaron’s Books Family Trivia: “You’ve come to us for book recommendations, fundraising, and general merriment,” they write. “You’ve come to our events and into our lives… but do you know us?” Customers who answer nine questions about the staff are entered to win a $20.14 gift certificate.
  2. Lowly Worm Hunt: Aaron’s Books hasn’t forgotten their younger readers. Young customers are encouraged to find the nine “Lowly Worms” hidden in the shop to be entered to win nine dollars worth of used children’s books.
  3. Name the Bestsellers: Customers are encouraged to guess the top selling books during the bookstore’s nine years in Lititz. The store has a special special display with hints (PEACE. LOVE. BOOKS. bags with some of the letters cut out) and forms to list guesses. One lucky winner receives a $20.05 gift certificate.

These contests are underway now and will run through July 15. In addition, they’re offering a 9% discount on all used books during the month of July.

I love that these dates, dollar amounts, and discount percentages are odd enough to not only draw the reader’s attention, but also reinforce the year the store was established and how long they’ve been around.

I also love that they’re calling attention to their booksellers, inviting customers to get to know them a little better. Books are personal because booksellers are personal.

And finally, I love that they haven’t forgotten the children. An activity/contest for kids is often the catalyst to get families through the door.

Happy birthday, Aaron’s Books! Here’s to many many more.
