Preparing for the Sounds of Chicago

If you’re heading to Chicago for Book Expo America this week, here’s a little information about the man behind the voice you’ll hear if you ride the El.

The voice belongs to Lee Crooks, who not only alerts riders of the next stop, but also cautions them to stand clear of the closing doors. In this video, Crooks rides the CTA and meets riders who listen to his voice every day.

If you’re not able to appreciate his voice during your trip to Chitown, perhaps you’ll appreciate this as a bookseller: Crooks has also narrated several Thomas the Tank Engine children’s books.

How appropriate.
