Sharable Content: New Books for Young Readers

I Am Otter by Sam Garton (Ages 4 to 8)

Sam Garton began writing and illustrating stories about Otter and her world on the blog I Am Otter: The Unheard Ramblings of a Modern-Day Domestic Otter in 2009. The blog contains lots of sharable content, like a book trailer, an otter toast tutorial, and an introduction to the author. (If you think Otter is charming, take a look at the video above.) Algonquin has some great support materials, including Tania Unsworth’s essay on writing The One Safe Place and a character overviewUnsworth’s website is informative and well done and she is active on Twitter.

Exile: Exile #1 by Kevin Emerson (Ages 14 and up)

Kevin Emerson is very active on Twitter and Facebook, and his website includes soundtrack featuring 3 original songs that appear in the novel brought to life. (Emerson is a musician… singer, drummer, and guitarist and has played in bands since high school.)

The Taking by Kimberly Derting (Ages 14 and up)

Derting has an extremely thorough website. She’s also on Facebook, Twitter, and Pinterest. (Ask your teen readers if they’re on Pinterest. It might surprise you.)
