Simplify Your Life Week: Day 3
How many screens are surrounding you right now? If you could see my desk, I’m sure you would say, “Hello pot. Meet kettle.” I typically have two laptops, and iPad and my iPhone open and available at all times. If I walk away from my desk without my phone, I have a mild panic attack. And if I don’t reply to an email immediately, I feel tremendous guilt. That’s just not right. Today, I invite you to test this “less is more” theory with me.
- Check email only 3 times today. Once in the morning, once just before lunch, and once late afternoon.
- Turn off your cell phone. Especially if you are on the sales floor. Only check it when you’re on break or at lunch. If it’s an emergency, they’ll know how to reach you.
- Unless social media is part of your job, don’t check it until you’re away from work. You really won’t miss much. And it won’t take long to catch up.
As you move along with your day, in your notebook or on a random piece of scrap paper, keep track of everything you accomplish today. And at the end of the day let’s ask ourselves: was today less stressful?
