Spontaneous Book Walks
Village Books & Paper Dreams in Bellingham, WA, hosted a Pre-Holiday Open House last week filled with unique activities. They had various stations set up where customers could do things like learn how many different ways there are to tie a scarf or vote for their favorite staff pick. But the one that piqued my curiosity: spontaneous book walks.
“It’s like a cake walk,” explained Lindsey McGuirk, Digital Marketing Manager for the store. “There were numbers placed on the floor throughout the store and throughout the day an announcement would be made over the loudspeaker that it was time for a book walk.”
“Customers would run to a number on the floor and then a staff member would randomly call out one of those numbers. The customer standing on the number that was called would win prizes–both books from Village Books and gifts from the gift side of our shop, Paper Dreams!”
And if you’re not sure what a cake walk is, she added, “It’s like the cousin to musical chairs.”
