Take a Closer Look at Your Media List

At the beginning of each quarter, I encourage you to update your media list so you (and your publicists) reach out to the right media in your area. It’s time to make those phone calls again to check that the person on your list still works in the same capacity. (Confirm the spelling while you have them on the phone. We all like to have our names spelled correctly.)

Today, as you look at your list of media, think about different ways you can help them as a content provider.

  • Can you provide a weekly bestseller list for the local newspaper?
  • Can a member of your staff provide book reviews for the paper or on the radio?
  • Can you, as your Chamber of Commerce President, speak as the “shop local” expert?

By providing content as a service to the local media, they might be more inclined to write about your event the next time they receive your press release.
