The ‘Nordstromized’ Restroom

downtown-books-bathroomphotoAfter reading the 300 Seconds piece yesterday about restrooms, Jamie Layton of Duck’s Cottage Coffee & Books in Duck, NC and Downtown Books in Manteo, NC sent me this note about the restroom in their downtown store:

“Last year I read The Nordstrom Way and realized our bathroom had always been a ‘step child.’ So I ‘Nordstromized’ it–cleaned top to bottom, bought hand lotions and nice soaps, added a basket of books and painted the wall behind the toilet with chalkboard paint. Now not only can we do some PR in the RR but we’ve even had people comment that it feels like being in somebody’s home! (It gets a lot of traffic, not a lot of public restrooms downtown!)”

Here are some words I thought I would never write: If you have a bookstore restroom that makes you proud, I’d love to share it with the rest of the class. Attach it to an email to beth.golay@booksandwhatnot.com, or text it from your phone to 316-208-3438.
