Tournament of Books
A different kind of March madness kicks off today. The Tournament of Books, sponsored by The Morning News and Field Notes, will pit 17 of the books of 2013 against one another in an NCAA style bracket.
Judging this year’s Tournament of Books: Jami Attenberg, Geraldine Brooks, John Darnielle, Rachel Fershleiser, John Freeman, Roxane Gay, John Green, Roger D. Hodge, Jane Hu, Mat Johnson, Lydia Kiesling, Jeff Martin, John McElwee, Sarah Schulman, Lizzie Skurnick, Hector Tobar, and Greg Walklin.
The Tournament of Books (in its 10th year) is not only fun for booksellers; just imagine the social media potential by involving your local reading community. You can download the 2014 Tournament of Books bracket and make it available for your customers. Or blow it up into a poster for your own display. If you have a large window, draw your own bracket with dry-erase markers.
The tournament schedule is posted here, so you can plan ahead for any displays or posts.
Geraldine Brooks judged a pre-tournament playoff round between Life After Life by Kate Atkinson and Woke Up Lonely by Fiona Maazel, and the outcome will be announced today. Who do you think will win?
