If you have an automatic signature set up to magically appear every time you send an e-mail, take 300 seconds to update it.
Does it still say you’re currently reading a book that you actually finished 3 months ago? It’s time to change it up. Just like with our websites, the more we update, the more readers will look to see what has changed.
While you’re looking at your signature, double-check to make sure you have all of the correct information. I haven’t seen this with any booksellers or publishers, but I have received emails containing signatures with misspelled names and incorrect phone numbers. One friend accidentally put his home address after the company name.
Updating the signature shouldn’t take the full 5 minutes, so spend a couple of minutes looking at signatures in emails you’ve received to see if something captures your attention. You never know where you’ll find inspiration.
