Valentine’s Promotions

Now that February is upon us, it’s a good idea to decide if you will offer an incentive for customers to purchase from your store for Valentine’s Day. In addition to an obvious display, you might consider one of these ideas.

Yours, Mine, and Ours Sale. This is a variation of a his/hers pairing, but with more sales potential. Offer a progressive discount based on the number of books purchased. Save 10% on the first book, 20% on the second book, and 30% on the third. The discount averages around 20% or less, especially if you discount most expensive to least expensive.

Love Me/Love Me Not-As-Much. This is basically a coin toss to see which of two discounts a customers receive. The customers call it in the air. If they win the toss, they receive the greater discount.

Love is Crazy. Offer a discount on books with the word “love” in the title. Or a variation would be a Seeing Red? sale, where books with red covers are discounted.

Sometimes it just takes a sale for a mandatory gift-giving holiday to get them in the door. After that, you can step in and work your own matchmaking magic.
