Word of the Week

This week, Books & Company in Prince George, British Columbia, launched a new segment in their weekly newsletter: Word of the Week.

In the segment, they listed a word along with a definition.

pan·a·ce·a
[pan-uh-see-uh]
noun
1. a remedy for all disease or ills; cure-all,
2. an answer or solution for all problems or difficulties

Books & Company has a “Wordy Wednesdays” series which runs on their Facebook fan page, and they began incorporating the idea in the newsletter as cross-promotion, with the potential for contests, challenges, and possible promotions. “The idea also came from a blog that I subscribe to with a similar weekly feature called For the Love of a Linguaphile on My Life as a Teacup,” said Kimberly Matheson of Books & Company. “Honestly, I really just enjoy words and wanted to bring something different to the newsletter that might result in subscriber participation.”

If your readers love words–allow me some sass on Friday–this would be a great addition to your newsletter/social media.
